Landcom commences public consultation on the future of the Cherrybrook Precinct
Landcom has launched a new consultation program to help shape the future of government-owned land around Cherrybrook Station.
The Cherrybrook Station government land has been nominated as a State Significant Precinct (SSP). Through this SSP process, Landcom is seeking to change the zoning to enable a lively mixed-use precinct. Feedback from the new consultation program will form part of the rezoning application later this year.
Landcom Executive General Manager of Projects Scott Gregg, said that the Cherrybrook SSP was another important step in optimising public transport services for the local community.
“The State Significant Precinct at Cherrybrook Station has the opportunity to become a great place for the local community to live, work, shop, eat and enjoy.
“In order to achieve the best outcome for the precinct, we need to ensure a good mix of homes, retail, open space and transport options, and we want to do this with meaningful input from the public.
“We want to get the balance right, so we need to understand the community’s needs and priorities, and to hear the community’s views on their vision for the future precinct.
“That is why, working closely with Hornsby Shire Council, we are launching a new consultation program for the State Significant Precinct at Cherrybrook Station, and I encourage everyone to get involved and have their say.”
The rezoning for the State Significant Precinct at Cherrybrook Station could enable:
- A mix of uses including retail, residential, services and community spaces;
- About 600 new homes in buildings of around eight storeys in height to meet the needs of people with changing lifestyles and different income levels;
- High quality open space and recreation areas;
- A landscape character which reflects the surrounding area; and
- New pedestrian and cycle paths.
Community members are invited to have their say until 6 September through a range of different forums, including digital platforms, which support the current COVID-19 health and safety restrictions.
Information is available online, along with surveys and other opportunities to provide ideas and feedback.
