Celebrating seven years of Sydney Metro Northwest Places placemaking
This May marks seven years since the beginning of our Sydney Metro Northwest Places program, creating welcoming public spaces and community experiences across Northwest Sydney.
Since launching in 2019, this program has brought locals together through art, movement, food, culture and connection. Working alongside councils, community groups and local organisations, Sydney Metro Northwest Places has helped transform public spaces into welcoming places where locals can gather, participate and build new connections.
What started with the opening of Tallawong Pocket Park, which closed in August 2021, has transformed into the ongoing activation of Bella Vista Pocket Park since August 2022. Each year providing new opportunities for the community to connect and get involved.
During the past seven years, significant events have welcomed thousands to the area for memorable celebrations of culture, creativity and entertainment. This past year has continued that momentum, with regular weekly and monthly activities bringing the park to life and encouraging people of all ages and abilities to take part.
Locals have stayed active through practicing yoga, cross-training and boxing classes with Live Life Get Active. Whilst The Stage Door Performing Arts’ dance classes brought energy and creativity to the park with weekly sessions and fun new monthly themes.
Skateboarders of all skill levels rolled into our Totem Skateboarding workshops, which kicked off the year with a launch event that transformed the park into a vibrant hub of skating and creativity with a ‘Design Your Own Skateboard’ workshop. These workshops continue to provide a welcoming environment for young people to learn new skills and build confidence on their boards.
As we celebrate seven years of placemaking, we thank everyone who has attended an event, joined a class or supported the program along the way. Your participation has helped shape these places into vibrant community spaces filled with life and connection.
We want to hear from you – as we continue to grow and evolve the program, community feedback plays an important role in shaping future activities and events. You’re invited to share your experience through our 5-minute survey, helping us better understand what’s working well and where we can improve.
By completing the survey, you’ll go in the draw to win 1 of 5 $100 e-gift cards. Winners will be selected at random and contacted by email.
